We all have a little voice in our heads that seems to be constantly plotted against us. This is the voice that says you don’t deserve, you are not worthy, or that you do not fit in. This voice can be damaging and can often have a negative effect on what we receive from the universe. This is because the universe works as a mirror so, what you put out energetically, you get back.
Here are 6 ways to improve your negative self-talk so you can start putting out and receiving positive vibrations.
1. Clear your mind of negativity through meditation.
When we take some time to sit down daily in a meditation practice, it can truly change our lives. We are gifting ourselves with a moment to stop the mental chatter. If you are new to meditation this can be a bit hard. Some helpful tips would be to start with 5 minutes a day and work up to more. Don’t try to completely rid your mind of the negative self-talk, just be aware of it and let it pass by without judgment. Pretend that your thoughts are like clouds, floating by unnoticed. The point is not to try to push your thoughts out with force, but to let them drift away over time with ease.
2.Recite positive “I Am” statements.
It can be helpful to repeat to yourself positive statements beginning with “I Am”. “I Am” statements are life changing and a great way to call in your power. These two simple words are said to be the basis of creation! When you get into the habit of reciting these statements to yourself, you’ll be surprised how quickly you start to resonate with them! They will start to change your negative vibrations to positive ones.
3.Just say “NO” to negative chatter.
When your negative self-talk does arise, just say no. It sounds silly, but this is a simple way to catch yourself in the middle of speaking poorly to or about yourself in your mind. Just cut if off. The cessation of negative thoughts is the first step to freedom from said thoughts.
4.Tell yourself how great you are every day (even if you don’t believe it at first.)
We are really good at telling ourselves that we aren’t great, so flip the script! Try telling yourself how awesome you are every day. Wake up in the morning, go to the mirror and tell yourself you are amazing! At first, you might not believe it, just say it with a smile, just as you would say it to a dear friend. Then, keep going on with your day. If you do this every day you will start to change your beliefs and realize that the person staring back at you in the mirror really is quite amazing and totally deserving of the compliment.
5.Write down all of the things that make you amazing daily.
There’s a journal prompt from my book, Write by the Moon: A 28-day Journal Companion for Manifesting with the Cycle of the Moon, where I ask you to write down positive statements about yourself. It’s a powerful prompt to remind you of how many things really do make you wonderful. You can do a small list or an entire page, but write down the things that make you unique and special, then go back and read it whenever you need a boost! Reading these words will help to replace the negative things your mind will tell you to trick you into thinking you aren’t amazing.
6.Give gratitude for the ability to be you.
Be grateful that you are who you are, and that you have the ability to live this miracle of a life. The odds of us being born were definitely stacked against us, but somehow we all made it here and that in its self is worth celebrating daily! Too often, we forget that for all we know, we only get to play this game once. Take a moment to go outside, look up towards the moon, and take a deep breath, than thank yourself for just being you. You are perfect the way you are, and no matter what your mind tries to tell you, nothing can change that.
